About Me

Welcome to My Bio!

I am William Hunt, a native of Missouri, born in 1957. Since approximately 1980, I have been a resident of Alaska, where I raised my three daughters as a single parent, commencing when my youngest was a mere three months old.

My upbringing was imbued with religious values, attending church during my formative years and progressing through the educational system. I began my academic journey at Henry Clay Elementary School, followed by North East Junior High, and ultimately graduated from Overland Park Christian High School in 1975, ranking among the top 10 students in a modest graduating class of nine.

Following high school, I briefly pursued theological studies at a Bible college but opted to discontinue after a year due to mismatched interests. Nonetheless, I remained employed at the institution until 1977, fulfilling maintenance obligations and assuming the role of lead custodian, ensuring the facility’s readiness for each day’s activities.

In 1977, spurred by the encouragement of two acquaintances, I made the decision to relocate to Fairbanks, Alaska.

Although my initial experience was less than favorable, prompting a brief return to Missouri, I ultimately resettled in Alaska in 1980, marking the commencement of my enduring residence.

For over two decades, spanning from approximately 1977 to 1998, I honed my skills as an automotive mechanic across various establishments, specializing in a wide array of vehicular systems from engines to rear differentials. Subsequently, I transitioned to the public sector, joining the Fairbanks District Attorney’s Office under the aegis of the State of Alaska’s Department of Law, where I diligently served until my retirement in 2018.

Upon my youngest daughter attaining adulthood, I embarked on a philanthropic endeavor, assuming the persona of Santa Claus to give back to the community. As retirement from my governmental position loomed, I assumed stewardship of a nonprofit entity initially known as Santa’s Clearing House, subsequently rebranded as Santa’s Helpers, with the overarching goal of ensuring its enduring legacy.

Through collaborative efforts with the North Star Community Foundation and the benevolence of Fairbanks Nissan’s proprietor, Les Nichols, we secured permanent nonprofit status and established dedicated operational infrastructure. This milestone was followed by the establishment of a governing board entrusted with the oversight of Santa’s Helpers. In 2022, I transitioned leadership responsibilities to this esteemed executive board. My tenure as Santa Claus imparted invaluable lessons, particularly in integrity and the paramount importance of collective endeavor in enhancing the welfare of children and families. Just as Santa relies on the steadfast belief and support of children, parents, and allies, I recognize the indispensable nature of unity and collaboration, virtues essential for effective leadership, including aspirations for the highest office of the United States.
