Reforming Child Protective
Services (CPS)

As president, I aim to reform Child Protective Services (CPS) to better protect children and support families. To achieve this, I propose the following changes:

1. **Mandate Recorded Conversations**: Require every CPS agency to record all conversations with involved parties to ensure transparency and accountability.

2. **Burden of Proof on CPS**: Remove unnecessary stipulations and make it mandatory for CPS to provide concrete evidence for their claims and decisions.

3. **Mandatory Attorney Reports**: Require all attorneys involved to submit detailed written reports to the court for every hearing, ensuring these reports are independent and not simply in agreement with CPS.

4. **Increased Parental Visitation**: Ensure parents have the right to see their children more frequently, with a minimum of more than one hour per week.

5. **Family Involvement**: Guarantee that family members remain actively involved in the child’s life throughout the process.

6. **Prioritize Keeping Siblings Together**: Place a high priority on keeping siblings together and, whenever possible, place them with family members.

7. **Simplified Guardianship for Family Members**: Allow family members to obtain guardianship of children more easily, reducing the state’s involvement once guardianship is granted.

These changes aim to create a more just, transparent, and family-centered approach in the child protective system, ensuring the best interests of children and their families are always the primary focus.
